New section

Independent publications is now open

A new section for research that BSEIF members write on their own initiative. We have opened it to encourage independent learning and curiosity, and it sits deliberately apart from official department work.

Independent publications, a new section of the BSEIF website, is now open. The section carries research that members write on their own initiative, which is to say work that begins with a question somebody wanted answered rather than with an assignment.

We built it because a good deal of what a student learns about energy and infrastructure is learned outside a syllabus, and has nowhere to go once it is written. Reading a merger clearance properly, sizing a project from public benchmarks, arguing with a model until it holds: none of that requires a mandate, and none of it should have to wait for one. The section gives that work somewhere to land, thereby making independent learning and curiosity visible where it was previously private.

The section sits apart from department research, and deliberately so: everything published here represents its authors’ own analysis and judgement, and carries no official BSEIF departmental endorsement. Each publication therefore ships with the apparatus a reader needs to check it, which is the full text as a PDF, readable in the page or downloadable, an abstract, the author and the date of publication, and a ready-made citation in APA, Chicago, MLA and BibTeX.

The section opens with an initiation of coverage on Eni S.p.A. by Lorenzo Barbagelata. The note values the data-centre campus Eni is building at Ferrera Erbognone, and finds nothing in the public record that treats it as a discrete line, neither in the company’s broker coverage page nor across the twelve questions asked on the second-quarter analyst call. The case it consequently makes is that consensus has not priced the business at all.

Members who have finished a piece of research are welcome to propose it for publication, writing to as.bseif@unibocconi.it with the draft and a short abstract.
