Applications to join BSEIF are now open. The form is live on the site, it is the single route into membership, and every candidate this round passes through it, whether the interest is in research, in events, in partnerships or in one of the eight scope divisions the association runs.
The published process runs in five steps: the application form, a short review of the application, an interview, allocation to a team or a division, and onboarding. The interview, where a round includes one, covers motivation, sector interests and a basic understanding of energy, infrastructure and finance, and the standard named there is deliberately basic: the weight falls on how a candidate reasons about the sector rather than on how much of it they have already covered. Nobody is expected to arrive fluent.
Successful candidates are allocated to one of four core teams (Research, Events, Partnerships and Marketing and Communications) or to one of eight scope divisions, among them Power and Renewables, Grids and Storage, Project Finance and Macro and Geopolitics. The divisions are where the association’s sector work is produced. Each is a working team with its own remit, and the division a member joins therefore shapes what they spend their time reading, modelling and writing about.
While an existing background in energy or infrastructure is useful, ultimately the selection weighs curiosity, comfort with structure and numbers, reliability, and a willingness to contribute to something built from zero. That last criterion carries weight. The association is young, its departments are still preparing their first official publications, and the members admitted this round will consequently shape what BSEIF publishes and what its events look like for everyone who arrives after them.
